      Many of my fellow students cannot make it out why I will choose to apply for a graduate's study in mechanical engineering. And I know clearly that they won't prefer such a discipline that involves arduous work without immediate material return. And for many engineering students, it is indeed a better option to transfer to the realm of computer science and economics, for it has a wide field of application and a lucrative prospect. But I still love mechanical engineering, because it will bring about solid achievements that I can see and feel. I enjoy mobilizing my theoretical knowledge in mathematics and physics fully in the concrete making of things, so that these two disciplines cease to be abstract to me, but deeply bounded to the real objects I work on. I enjoy working assiduously and methodically to achieve improvement of a design or make an idea come true. Hence, I have endeavored to participate in research projects, some of them were expected to be undertaken by researchers with the capability of a graduate student. I have made full advantage of the National Excellent Engineering Training project to visit and work in the national laboratories and looked into the newest engineering technologies the industry of China offers. This also prompted me to reflect upon the challenges and opportunities China are confronted in the aero-engine industry. It is these experiences that led my love for mechanical engineering into a specific field of interest, that is aero-engine and its related topics. During my undergraduate's study, I took part in two research projects namely the "Experimental Study on the convective heat transfer of advance W-Rib" and the "Gas Turbine Performance Improvement based on three-dimensional end wall model and concave vortex". Both projects are relevant to the improvement of the aero-engine turbine efficiency, as they dealt with the engine's thermal performance and the flow channel respectively. In these projects, I have amplified my knowledge in thermodynamics and in fluid dynamics in practical circumstances. Moreover, I developed a strong experimental capability in data recording and analysis and especially in the simulation of complicated models of computational fluid dynamics.
