    • EssayWays of Reaching the Goal of Equity and Inclusion in Education

All human beings deserve education and other resources shared by all, no matter what cultures they come from, what races or religions they belong to, or what social classes they’re up to. Reaching the goal of equity and inclusion and treating every student in the same way have long been the principles of every teacher. But how do we, a new generation of educators, complete this great mission? A couple of days ago I read a small article, titled The Teacher’s Hand, during my tutorship of a fifth-grade primary school kid. In the article, it’s described that on Thanksgiving day, the teacher asks all her pupils to draw something that they have thanks for. Among many other students who depict a large dinner table covered by dishes, a family reunion, an autumn harvest, etc, a small, weak, bad-looking, black boy draws only a hand. The teacher comes to him and ask him who’s hand it is, and despite other students’ guesses such as the God, his father and his mother, the boy states shyly that it’s actually the hand of the teacher, who has been caring for him all the time, and who comes to him and softly shake his hand every time when the class is over in spite of his ugliness, his weakn

As a Chinese student, I am so lucky that I have frequent conversations and interactions with foreign teachers and students from different countries since I was a freshman in college. Through communicating with them to exchange ideas, I discovered rich language and cultural points, and became fascinated towards the language learning and teaching as an inseparable whole. Acquiring a different language from people with other cultural backgrounds and in return delivering your mother tongue to them is such an interesting process that not only can ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of your language study in a positive and vivid atmosphere, but more importantly can intensify your international relationship with each other, which is the solid foundation for the final goal of modern humanity--the integration of all nations of the world. English, as one international language, is of tremendous importance to the cross-cultural communication and social interaction between people from different races and ethnics, which is why it should be widely spread and is also the motivation for me to promote its education worldwide. Therefore, out of my love and passion for language and its education in an international field, I choose TESOL for my graduate program to fully prepare myself in fulfilling my dream. 4-year English major study enables me to experience a number of courses on English language learning and cultural exchange, including Advanced English, An Introduction to Linguistics, and Cross-Cultural Communication. These courses have played an important role in preventing me from learning language solely, but instead focusing me on the insightful ideas and connotative meanings the facial language tries to convey. In the study of Linguistics, I got to form in myself a deeper understanding and holistic view of this language. The Cross-Cultural Communication course presents me a picture of how language can serve as a communicative tool and carrier of culture in the multicultural world full of subtleties and diversities. Apart from these compulsory courses, I also took the online course--Introduction of Multilingual and Multicultural Education--on Coursera. Not only did I gain a clear understanding about the importance of M&M education and the indispensable connection between language and culture, but also got to know the specific pedagogy on teaching international students, including detailed teaching method, proportionate usage of home language and dominant langu

October 19, 2018 Dear Administrator: It is my honor and honest privilege to introduce to you my former student, Harry Liu (Liu Jiawen). Harry was in my oral English class during his freshman year in Qingdao University. Harry was an exceptional student, and made quite an impression on me. He was intent on learning everything he could about languages and culture. Harry was not content until he was completely satisfied with the answer or concept he proposed. Harry continued to keep in contact with me after graduating from the class. Over the past three years I have watched him change from a rather naive individual to the confident young man he is today. In addition to keeping in touch with Harry academically and socially, I also became acquainted with Harry’s family after he completed my course. I found his fam
